Every Root & Rivet Director's Chair is individually crafted and inspected with care. We stand behind the quality of our workmanship and the materials used in every chair.
Our 12-Month Craftsmanship Guarantee covers manufacturing and workmanship defects, subject to the terms of our full guarantee.
Natural Materials
Timber, genuine leather and canvas are natural materials. Variations in grain, colour, texture, markings, softening and patina are part of their character and are not considered defects.
Care & Use
Proper care helps preserve your chair for years to come. Please follow the instructions in our Customer Care & Product Guide below.
Maximum recommended user weight: 120 kg
The chair is designed for normal seated use by one person. It must not be used as a step, ladder, standing platform or work platform.
Making a Claim
If you believe your chair has a manufacturing or workmanship defect, please contact us with your proof of purchase, serial number where applicable, a description of the issue and photographs or video where helpful.

Your Director's Chair has been handcrafted using carefully selected materials and finished with attention to detail. Solid timber, genuine leather and durable canvas each have their own natural character, so no two chairs are exactly alike.
With proper care, your chair is designed to be enjoyed for many years.
Care at a Glance
Timber
Solid timber is a natural material that will develop character over time.
- Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
- Wipe spills promptly and dry the surface.
- For heavier marks, use a slightly damp cloth.
- Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, solvents and abrasive cleaners.
- Do not saturate the timber with water.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
Natural variations in grain, colour, knots and texture are part of the character of your chair.
Genuine Leather
Genuine leather will soften and develop a beautiful patina with use.
- Dust or wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth.
- If necessary, use a slightly damp cloth.
- Allow leather to dry naturally.
- Use only a suitable leather-care product and test it first on an inconspicuous area.
- Avoid detergents, alcohol-based cleaners, bleach and abrasive products.
- Do not expose leather to excessive water or direct heat.
Small variations, natural markings and changes in colour are characteristics of genuine leather.
Canvas
Your canvas is designed for durability, but regular care will help maintain its appearance.
- Brush away loose dirt regularly.
- Wipe marks gently with a soft, damp cloth.
- Where necessary, use mild soap.
- Avoid aggressive scrubbing and harsh cleaning products.
- Allow canvas to dry completely before folding or storing.
- Never store the chair while damp.
Moisture trapped in folded canvas can lead to mildew, odour and deterioration.
Steel & Hardware
Keep steel components and hardware clean and dry. If your chair is exposed to moisture, dry it thoroughly afterwards. For outdoor or humid environments, additional care may be required to prevent surface corrosion.
Folding Your Director's Chair
Always make sure nobody is sitting on the chair before folding it. Keep your fingers clear of hinges and folding points.
To fold:
- Place your left hand underneath the back of the seat.
- Place your right hand at the front of the seat.
- Pull the seat upwards carefully.
- Allow the chair to fold naturally.
Do not force the folding mechanism. Important: The seat should never become pinched inside the crossing frame members. Fold the chair slowly and carefully.
Storage
When storing your Root & Rivet Director's Chair:
- Store it in a dry, well-ventilated area.
- Keep it away from excessive heat.
- Avoid prolonged direct sunlight.
- Do not store the chair while the canvas or leather is damp.
- Avoid areas with excessive humidity.
Proper storage will help protect the timber, leather, canvas and steel components.
Outdoor Use
Root & Rivet Director's Chairs are not designed for permanent outdoor exposure.
The chair may be used outdoors, but prolonged exposure to:
- Rain
- Moisture
- Humidity
- Direct sunlight
- Extreme weather conditions
may accelerate natural ageing and deterioration of the materials.
Where possible, bring the chair indoors or place it under suitable protection when not in use.
Natural Materials
One of the things that makes Root & Rivet different is the use of natural materials.
Timber
Every piece of timber has its own grain, colour, knots and natural markings. These variations are part of its character.
Leather
Genuine leather may display natural scars, grain variations, markings and colour differences. Over time, it will soften and develop a unique patina.
Canvas
Canvas may soften and develop subtle changes through use.
These characteristics are not imperfections, they are part of the story of your piece.
Safety
Your Director's Chair is designed for seated use only.
Maximum recommended user weight: 120 kg
Please:
- Never stand on the chair.
- Never use it as a ladder or step.
- Never use it as a work platform.
- Do not sit on the arms or back of the chair.
- Do not exceed the 120 kg maximum recommended user weight.
- Ensure the chair is fully opened and securely positioned before sitting.
- Keep fingers clear of folding points.
If you notice cracked timber, a damaged joint, loose hardware, instability or any other structural concern, stop using the chair and contact Root & Rivet.
Moving Your Chair
When moving your chair:
- Do not drag it across the floor.
- Lift it by the solid frame.
- Do not lift it by the canvas or leather.
- Protect the timber from sharp objects and hard impacts.
- When transporting multiple chairs, prevent them from rubbing against one another.
Regular Check
From time to time, check:
- Timber frame
- Joints
- Hinges
- Bolts and rivets
- Canvas or leather attachment points
- Folding mechanism
- Overall stability
If anything becomes loose, damaged or unstable, stop using the chair and contact Root & Rivet.
Repairs & Modifications
Please contact Root & Rivet before attempting structural repairs or modifications. Do not:
- Drill into the frame.
- Alter structural components.
- Replace hardware with unsuitable components.
- Modify the folding mechanism.
- Alter structural canvas or leather attachments without professional advice.
Where practical, we believe in repairing rather than replacing.
A well-made piece deserves the opportunity to continue its story.
